My Home Tour: Family Room

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. We had a lovely Thanksgiving, spent with family and fabulous food!

As promised, here is the first post in my "Home Tour" series. I thought it was only appropriate to start the tour off by sharing with you our family room. This room is the centerpiece of our home. We don't just live around it, we live in it. It is the gathering place for family and friends. I love the lightness and brightness of the room. The sky high ceilings and windows allow plenty of light in, and give the room and open and airy feel. I love walking into the family room after waking up each morning and opening up the blinds to let the sunshine in, and then settling onto the sofa with my hubby and kids in the evening to watch some our favorite TV shows. In our home, this room really does belong to our family.

I hope you enjoyed the tour of my family room. As I mentioned before, I actually redecorated some of the rooms in my home this past summer, including this one. Tomorrow, I'll show you what this room looked like not even six months ago. I think you will be surprised. Up next on My Home Tour series will be my kitchen, another room that has undergone quite a transformation!

Giving Thanks

I can't believe that Thanksgiving is tomorrow! My parents got in town last night and we have spent the day preparing for tomorrow's festivities. As I mentioned before, I am hosting Thanksgiving dinner this year for my parents and my husbands family, parents, siblings, kids and all! I love this time of year. My family is the greatest blessing of my life and the thing that I am most thankful for. Among the many other things I am filled with gratitude for this year, is this blog, and those of you who have taken the time to visit it. Thank you for inviting me in and allowing me to share a part of myself with you. Also, to my blogging friends... thank you for your kindness and support, and for welcoming me into the blogsphere with open arms. I had no idea what a friendly and open community this is and I am incredibly blessed to be a part of it.

Remember this post about crafting away in preparation for Thanksgiving? Well, I finally get to show you what I came up with! Here is the fun pennant banner that my Mother-in-law helped me make with the use of her Cricut machine.

And here is our dining table all read for tomorrow's big meal...

In case you are wondering where I got some of the table decor...

Table linens - Homegoods (they are linen and the texture is part of the look. I promise they are not wrinkled)
Vases - Homegoods
Glass candlesticks - Ballard Designs
Turkey candle holders - World Market
Gilded turkey and Mercury glass votive holders - Tai Pan Trading
The pumpkins I spray painted myself.
I made the place cards by die cutting metallic silver paper and writing names on them with a gold paint pen.

I hope all of you are able to spend this Holiday with the ones you love the most and that you will take a moment to reflect on all that you are grateful for. Oh, and that you get to stuff your face with the yummiest food you will eat all year!

One more thing! Remember how I said I was going to start my home tour this week? Well, I didn't forget. I did, however, have a momentary detachment from reality when I wrote that. How did I think I was going to pull that off with the craziness of Thanksgiving week!?! So, if you will grant me your forgiveness for my temporary insanity, I PROMISE that my home tour will start Monday!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Orange and Turquoise

Happy Friday everyone! I hope all of you have had an enjoyable and productive week. Things have been busy around the Montgomery home. The kids had early-out school all week due to parent-teacher conferences. I don't know why, but having the kids come home two hours earlier totally throws me into a tailspin! I did manage to finish up a client's home this week and I am so happy with the results. I think my client is super excited about her newly finished space too! Pictures of the project will be taken next week and I will share them with you soon. Maybe I'll manage to get a little sneak peek up on Monday!?!

As a mentioned in my previous post, my client wanted orange and turquoise to be incorporated into the room. So, to take you into the weekend, I decided I would post some of my favorite orange and turquoise images for you to enjoy!

My Home Tour...Next Week!

I have been wanting to post a tour of my home since I started this blog. Last week I had the opportunity to have the lovely and talented Paige Davis (no....not the one from Trading Spaces) of Paige Davis Photography come and photograph my home. It was so exciting to think of seeing some of my work through the lens of a professional photographer. She will be back later this week to finish shooting a couple of rooms we couldn't get to last time, and I can't wait to share all of her pictures of my home with you!

Starting next week, I will begin a "My Home" series where I highlight each of the rooms in my home in a single post! I will even share some "before" photos of the rooms that we redecorated in the summer. My hope is that as I share my home, you will get a better sense of my style, my personality, and the things that I love.

By the way, if you live in Utah and are looking for a super talented and super friendly, not to mention gorgeous, photographer to take photographs, of you, your kids, your family or even you house. Paige is your girl! You can find out all about her on her website!

It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas!

Don't worry! I haven't forgotten about Thanksgiving. After all, I have plenty to be thankful for. But, this weekend it looked like this outside...

So I decided there was no better time then the present to put up my Christmas tree. I always put my tree up before Thanksgiving. I don't decorate anything else in the house for Christmas until after, but the tree is an ever-present fixture on Thanksgiving Day. We recently redecorated out great room area and the new furniture and layout did not accommodate the width of our Christmas tree. So we had to buy a new "slim" tree to fit the space. We ended up with a 10 foot pre-lit fir tree. It is beautiful. I love the height and the way the slimmer profile fits the room.

I asked my hubby to put the tree up as I gathered all my tree decorating supplies.

Putting up the tree while watching the Utah vs. UCLA football game!

So, I am a crazy person and I like my Christmas decor to match the color scheme going on in my home. As I mentioned before, we recently redecorated, which means my tree also had to  be revamped to fit the new decor. My tree used to be adorned in, persimmon, brown, ivory and gold. But now...

...various shades of teal, green, creams and golds!

Here is the tree ready to be decorated...

and after the first round of ribbon...

and the finished product!

NOT YET!!!
I am such a tease, aren't I?

I am not going to reveal my completed tree to you until after I decorate my whole house. I will however give you sneak peek!

I can't wait to show you my tree. I love the way it turned out, and I get happy every time I look at it! I will be posting pictures of all of the Christmas decor in my home the week after Thanksgiving. As I mentioned before, I don't deck the halls for every holiday, but for Christmas I go all out!

PS - I don't deprive my kids of their own Christmas tree merriment. The girls have a small 4' pink tree that they decorate every year and this year the little guy is getting a red tree that he will decorate with University of Utah/UTES ornaments!

WHIRLWIND!

I wanted to take a minute to let you know that I haven't abandoned my blog! Things have been so crazy around here this week! I am trying to finish up a client's home, I'm finally getting around to having pictures of my own home taken; so I can get my house tour posted, and last night I had the opportunity to attend the VIP opening of the H&M store in Salt Lake City. I am so excited that Salt Lake has an H&M. The store is huge, two levels, and in my opinion, way better than the one in Las Vegas! It was so much fun and I scored some cute things! I am exhausted but pushing through!

I truly don't know how all of you mom/blogger/designer/DIYer's do it. I am still trying to figure out how to manage my time and fulfill the needs of everyone around me, as well as my own. This is definitely a whirlwind, but I am thankful each day that I have been blessed with the opportunity to follow my passion. Thanks for the support from all of YOU,  my friends, family and fellow bloggers. I promise, next week the blog will be filled with lots of fun things to see! Until then....have a fabulous weekend!

Oh Happy Day!

Sorry about the lack of post last friday. I had the opportunity to spend Friday and Saturday in Park City with a few of my girlfriends shopping, chatting and eating. It was a great little getaway!

Remember this client? Well, not only am I helping her with office, but I am also helping her pull together the family room of her home. She knew she wanted a casual space with pops of orange and turquoise. I have been busy over the last few weeks selecting fabrics, furniture, lighting and accessories. My client really wanted to have her space completed by mid November, just in time for Holiday entertaining. Things were looking great and on schedule until I checked my inbox one day to find an email stating that the fabric that I ordered for her drapes was backordered until late November! What?!?!

This fabric was perfect for the family room drapes, and I knew I wouldn't be able to find a suitable replacement, especially at the price point of this fabric. I had to break the news to my client. She was totally understanding and agreed that we should just wait for this fabric to become available again rather than finding something else, even if it meant that her room wouldn't be complete when she had hoped. Sigh. And then...last week she called me to let me know that the fabric had arrived at her doorstep! Oh, happy day, indeed! I love it when pleasant little surprises fall at your feet, and this was definitely one! So...her drapes are off to be fabricated and I can't wait to show them off in her completed space! I'll be posting some before pictures of the family room and some progress photos later this week...stay tuned!

Our Halloween and Brocade Home

I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween! Ours was fantastic. We really lucked out and had an unseasonably warm day on Monday. It was perfect for the kids to be out trick or treating. Here is a picture of my munchkins before they headed out to gather all the Halloween treats!

I realize that I may be biased, but aren't they the cutest dragon, hippie and samba dancer ever? A great time was had by all and Halloween 2011 will go down as another success in the Montgomery family memory book.

With my two older kids back in school and my little man down for a nap, I actually had some free time to spend on my computer yesterday. As I was browsing the web, I decided to take a minute to check out a site that I hadn't been to in quite awhile, Brocade Home. Are you familiar with this retailer? Brocade Home is the place to go if you are looking to add a little glam to your home. This store is all about vintage modern dolled up in high gloss black and white and metallics. It is pretty fabulous! I actually have a little side table of theirs sitting next to a chair in my bedroom. It looks like the table below, only smaller and a dark mahogany color.

silhouette cafe table - white

Sadly, they no longer sell my side table, but isn't this cafe table lovely? Aside from furniture, Brocade Home carries lighting, wall decor, bed linens and even wallpaper! Here are some things that caught my eye while browsing their site...

ruffled edge mirror - high gloss white

paisley print duvet - peony/white

turned leg console - high gloss black

pattern bent wood chair - metallic silver

stitch flocked wallpaper - apple
Their selection of wallpaper is top notch. It may not be for everyone but if you are looking to bring out a little of your glamorous side in your decor, Brocade Home may just have what you are looking for!
