The Foxtrotter One Project: Family Room

I am excited to be sharing the first reveal from the Foxtrotter One Project. This new construction was project was completed earlier this year. I was privileged enough to design this home from construction through completion. The homeowners are a darling family of 7, who have been friends for many years. They trusted me completely throughout the process and gave me full control of the design of the exterior and interior of their home. The family room area is a grand space. This room is 20' x 20' in size and has a 2 story height ceiling. We added floor to ceiling trim work on one wall to add some interest and dimension to the expansive room. The ceiling also sports 12' painted beams. The homeowners wanted this to be a gathering place in their home, where their family could come together free from distraction. Consequently, the television was left out of this space. :) I designed this space to have optimal seating and plenty of table area to play boardgames, cards, etc. The sofas are 108" in length and the coffee tables are 48" squares. I added bit color to the mostly neutral palette of the room. The result is a space that can be enjoyed by parents and kids alike.

I hope you enjoyed the first of the reveals from this project. Stay tuned for more.

Client Project Reveal: Harvey Project Shared Girls' Bedroom

I'm so happy to be sharing this sweet Girls' Shared Room from the Harvey Project. I have had the opportunity to work with these clients over the last 3 1/2 years, transforming different rooms in their home. You can see the Family Room, Master Bedroom and Nursery reveals in past posts on the blog.

Since Mom, Dad and Baby Sister's rooms were already done, it was time for the 2 older sisters, ages 4 and 6 to have their shared bedroom transformed into a fun, functional space that will be age appropriate for years to come. Since my client's are little girls, you can bet that pink and purple was on the wish list for their new room. Their Mom and I worked together to make sure their new room felt youthful, but not overtly childish. I used art, textiles and furniture that incorporated the pink and purple color scheme in an updated and more mature way. The result is a pretty shared room that is perfect for these two sweet sisters, now, and for years to come. Take a look.

I wish you could have seen the reaction the girls had to their new room! They love it and that is what makes me the most happy!

Sita Montgomery Interiors Project Reveal: The Rigby Project Piano Room

Today, I am revealing another room from the Rigby Project...the piano room. I'll keep my comments on this space short and sweet. We wanted this room to be bit formal, serene and beautiful. I think those words describe it perfectly. I hope you do too.

I'll be sharing the Master Bedroom from this beautiful home at the end of the week. Can't wait for you to see it.

Local Client Project Reveal: Baby Girl Nursery

Hello, Friends, I hope you had a great weekend. I'm back today to share with you one of my latest projects, a beautiful nursery for a very special baby girl.

Since I first showed the design board and a little peak of this project on Instagram, I have received many comments expressing excitement to see the full reveal of this nursery. I too, have been excited to post this completed room, but there were some events that took place this past week which made me question whether or not I should post and share this particular project. With permission from the family of my client, who has become a very dear friend, I am sharing her story.

I first met my client when she contacted me about helping her makeover the family room in her home. As an interior designer, I regularly spend many hours with my clients and their families. I often get to know these families in a different way than others do. My clients let me into their lives and into their homes. Because of this level of exposure, designer - client relationships can often turn into true, meaningful friendships. That has been the case with this client and her family. I have come to love her and her family, consisting of her husband and 2 sweet little girls (ages 5 and 18 months). After designing her family room, she asked me to design her Master Bedroom. Again, I spent many hours in her home and with her darling children. You can imagine how happy and excited I was when she told me that she was expecting another baby. After she and her husband discovered they were expecting their 3rd baby girl, she asked me to design a nursery for their new addition. I got right to work. I presented her with this design board.

She loved it! Products were ordered, walls were painted and wallpaper installed. Things were moving along well.  On a Tuesday, I checked in on my dear friend and the nursery. She was overdue and would be going to the Hospital the next morning to have her baby girl. Her sweet baby was born the next evening. Both Mom and baby were doing great! They were discharged from the hospital and returned to their home 2 days later.

It was 2 days after that, on Sunday evening, that things fell apart. No one had any idea, but my friend had suffered some complications, either during her pregnancy or her delivery, we are still not sure, and she was stricken with a heart attack 4 days after she gave birth. 911 was called and she was taken to a local hospital and was then life flighted to a larger hospital. Through a series of miracles, her life was spared. She is currently still in the hospital in the ICU and has a long road ahead of her. Her heart was severely damaged from the heart attack and she also has a tear in her aorta. She will likely need a heart transplant in the future. She will be in the hospital for quite sometime, but she is a fighter. The strength, courage and faith she has displayed over the past week is remarkable. She is such an amazing woman! I know she will be coming home and be reunited with her Husband, daughters and her sweet new baby girl soon.

I'm sure you can understand why I wasn't sure if I could or wanted to share this nursery with you. So why did I? I knew that my client had planned on having her baby's newborn pictures taken in the Nursery. I know how excited she was to see the nursery complete and to have me share it with you. This past week, her sister and I worked together to make sure that the Nursery would be absolutely perfect for the newborn pictures. On Saturday morning, I had the privilege of being there as the photographer took pictures of my friend's little angel.

My sincere hope is that this nursery, and the newborn pictures taken, help bring some joy to my dear friend during this time. I hope that she knows how much we love her. I hope she knows how many prayers have been said for her and her family. I hope she knows that her Father in Heaven is aware of her and her family and is watching over them. If you are willing, I also ask you to pray for her as well. I can't wait for the day that she is able to come home and rock her baby girl in this new nursery.

Client Project Reveal: The Florentine Project - Who's Afraid of the Big Brown Couch?

Hello, friends! Today I am back sharing another local client project. This project reveal is for all of you that are afraid of your big brown leather sofa and are wanting to kick it to the curb...but can't. That was the exact situation my client was in. She contacted me to hep her lighten and brighten her family room area. She was open to all new furniture, but the leather sofa had to stay. It is only a couple years old and in excellent shape. She didn't feel comfortable replacing the sofa with a lighter, upholstered one... just yet. She has 3 young children and she needed to make sure there was at least one place they could sit and potentially make a mess that wouldn't cause her to have a complete freak out. Sound familiar? I'm sure to many of you it does. I put together a plan for the space that would incorporate the leather sofa and still achieve the fresher, lighter feel my client was hoping for.

This is the design board I put together for the room:

My client had already decided to replace the carpet with wood flooring. I suggested removing the leather love seat and replacing it with 2 chairs. We also changed the placement of the TV and moved it to the other wall. The rest of the design stemmed from my client's desire to add some coral into the space. I am loving the coral, navy, gray and gold color scheme we decided on. Here is what the room looked like the first time I saw it...

BEFORE:

And here it is now...

AFTER:

As you can see the completed space did vary slightly from the original design, but the over all look is the same. Designing a space is an evolutionary process. Often times changes are made to the original plan to accommodate time and budget constraints, etc. Sometimes, I just decide something else will look better or something needs to be added. That is the benefit of a custom design by an experienced Interior Designer, they can see those little nuances that will add or detract from a space and make changes accordingly. The family room looks and feels so much more fresh and bright even with the big brown leather sofa in it. My client absolutely loves the space and so do I. I hope my design gives you big, brown leather sofa owners some inspiration and hope.
