Miss J's Bedroom Makeover

Hello, everyone! Today I'm back to share with you the makeover I gave to my 9 year old daughter's room. A few months ago she came to me and told me that she was done with the hot pink in her room and she wanted a room that was a bit more "mature" looking. I knew that it was time to give her bedroom a look that she would not only love now, but that she would enjoy for many years to come. I spent some time talking to her about the colors she wanted what her requests were for her new space. At the end of our discussion, she and I knew exactly how we were going to change up her space.

I posted about my conversation with daughter on Instagram, along with a picture of her room. To my surprise, later that day, I received an email from the lovely people at Gardner Village in West Jordan, Utah, stating that they would love to help me with her bedroom makeover. For those of you who are not familiar with Gardner Village, here is the description taken from their website...

Anyone that has ever been there will tell you that it is every bit as charming as it sounds. Gardner Village is a true gem in Utah and I could not pass up the opportunity to partner with them for Miss J's bedroom makeover. Over the course of a couple weeks, I traveled to Gardner Village to curate pieces for the room from the variety of shops there. Gardner Village has so many incredible shops, and their furniture and home decor shops are truly fabulous. I was able to find so many beautiful items to use in my bedroom design, including the most gorgeous bedding and pillows from Layers Beautiful Bedding, formerly known as The Village Quilt Shop, and a darling dresser from Down to Earth Home. The result is a bedroom for my little Miss J, that is perfect for her now, but will also suit her as she grows older. Take a look...

I had the light blue walls painted Wickham Gray by Benjamin Moore. It is one of my new favorite gray paint colors! The gorgeous chandeliers are from Capital Lighting. The art grouping on the far wall incorporates my little lady's love of France. She is in a French Immersion program at school and is currently obsessed with all that is French. The art pieces depict the Eiffel Tower, a collection of macaroons and some pretty lavender stems. Ooh La La!

I absolutely adore the framed abstract art piece above her bed. It helps give the space the mature feel we were looking for. I also adore the modern shape of her new upholstered headboard. It's details like this that give her room a bit of sophistication.

The other side of the room is used for storage and to create a reading nook for my little bookworm.

I wish you could touch the luxurious bedding I selected from Layers Beautiful Bedding at Gardner Village. The quality is second to none. They had so many gorgeous options for bedding that it was hard to choose! They also had the perfect accent pillows!

We recovered her window cornice and had custom drapery made for the room. The window is now a true focal point in the space. The new rug is a favorite addition to the room.

Miss J requested a chair in her room where she could snuggle up with a book.

I recovered some Target stools in the same fabric as the window cornice for the end of the bed.

A pair of new nightstands and lamps help finish off the bed wall.

The dresser from Down to Earth home is amazing! Not only is it super cute, but the crazy deep drawers provide plenty of storage for this little girl with lots of clothes!

Sita Montgomery Interiors: My Home - Guest Bedroom Reveal

I'm happy to be revealing the Guest Bedroom in my home, today. This space was really designed with my Mom in mind. Don't get me wrong, I love my Dad too. In fact, I've always been a Daddy's girl and am not ashamed to admit that I still am. Still, when my Parent's come to visit, my Mom is constantly cooking, cleaning and playing with the kids. She loves every minute of it, but I know it can be tiring too. I wanted to give both my parent's, but especially my mom, their own little retreat in my home. I think I have created just that for them. The color palette is soothing and the space evokes a true feeling of calm. The bedding was designed by the very talented Jill Rosenwald and is part of her Hampton Links Collections. Not only is it absolutely beautiful, but it is buttery soft. Truly, when I first took the duvet out of its packaging, I couldn't stop brushing my hand over the top of it. Sita Montgomery Interiors Client Project Reveal: The Rigby Project Master Bedroom

Today, I am continuing the reveals from the Rigby Project by showing you the Master Bedroom. We incorporated the same soft color palette, used throughout the home, in this space. The soft blues, aquas and grays create a soothing and serene sanctuary to wind down in at the end of the day. The room is large, but I didn't want to clutter it. I chose furnishings that are both functional and beautiful, including a little writing desk, where the lady of the house could pay bills and primp. I'm so pleased with how this space came together. Today, I am revealing another room from the Rigby Project...the piano room. I'll keep my comments on this space short and sweet. We wanted this room to be bit formal, serene and beautiful. I think those words describe it perfectly. I hope you do too.

Sita Montgomery Interiors Client Project Reveal: The Rigby Project Kitchen

Here is a closer look at the kitchen from the Rigby Project. The details in this space are everything! I will never get tired of a white kitchen and it's kitchens like this that keep my heart fluttering for them. The custom white cabinetry and white quartz counter tops are beautifully accented by the white subway tile with a Carrara marble mosaic inset. The coffered ceiling is the icing on the cake to this in this show stopping space.

Sita Montgomery Interiors Project Reveal: The Rigby Project Family Room

Today I am thrilled to share with you the first of a series of reveals I will doing from this project that I had the opportunity to work on last year, the Rigby Project. When the homeowners contacted me to help them with design of their new construction dream home, they had already started the process of choosing finishes and making selections for their home. As they got further into the process, they realized that they wanted the help and the eye of professional to make sure that their home would come together the way the wanted and had imagined. That is where I came in. I helped the homeowners review all of their selections, where needed. Some of the changes were big and some were small, but all of them helped them achieve the result they were looking for. A bright, fresh, classic and comfortable home that their family of 7 could enjoy and make memories in for many years. 

After construction was complete, I was also given the opportunity to furnish and decorate the entire main floor of this 6000+ square foot home. The homeowners were amazing to work with and put 100% of their trust in me. I am so thankful to them for that. I really do have the best clients in the world!

Sita Montgomery Interiors: My Home - Laundry Room Makeover Reveal

Today, I'm excited to share another reveal with you! This time I am revealing the makeover I gave to the Laundry Room in my home. Before we start, I feel the need to give you this little disclaimer: I photograph all of my own projects and work. This normally works out okay for me, but I will never profess to be a professional photographer. Case and point... photographing without natural light. I can't do it. I have no idea how it is done. My laundry room in an interior room with no windows and zero natural light. So, please excuse the less than stellar photos you are about to see. Can you try to look past them and see the transformation the space has undergone? Thanks, now we can move on. ;)

So here's the thing. When we purchased our home 3 years ago, the room I hated the most was the Laundry Room. Even though our home was new construction, I did not get to choose the floor plan, since we purchased it shortly before completion. I adored the layout of 99% of my home, but I despised the laundry room. Here are a few reasons why...

1. It is a long, narrow, galley style room.

2. You have to walk through it to access the main part of our home, if you are coming through the garage...I really, really hate that.

3. For storage, it had a couple of upper cabinets,  a lower cabinet under the sink and a bench seat with hooks placed along the back wall for coats and backpacks, etc. This did not function well for our family! More on that later.

4. It was a bland and boring space with no personality or natural light.

The fact is, I loathe doing laundry more than any other household chore, and the state of the laundry room was only contributing to my disdain for it. 

It only took me 3 years, but I have finally made over my laundry room into a space that functions well and that I actually like to be in! I still hate doing laundry, but my new Laundry Room is making it bit more bearable. 

Here is what the space looked like when we moved in.

And now...

One of the biggest changes made to the space was done so with the addition of cabinetry. Since this room functions as both our mudroom and laundry room, keeping this space tidy and organized is key.

First the old bench seat and hooks were ripped out and replaced by 3 closed front lockers, one for each of my 3 kids. Each locker has hooks and shelving inside to help organize their backpacks and coats, etc. There are more cabinets for storage above each locker. Below each locker is a shoe drawer that helps corral my kids' shoes. The lockers alone have changed my life! Putting all the mess behind closed doors has helped keep this room, which was always messy and chaotic, clean and tidy. Yay!!

Before, the cabinets over the washer and dryer did not go to the ceiling. There was an awkward 6 inch gap from the top of the cabinet crown to the ceiling. I never understood why it was installed like that, it just seemed odd. I had my contractor move the cabinet to ceiling height. This also allowed him to bring the lockers and new open shelving to ceiling height and tie it all together with new crown moulding.

The sink cabinet and countertop were already in the space when we moved in, but above them was a clothes rod and a single shelf. We never hung anything on that rod and the shelf was so high, and close to the ceiling that I couldn't reach it or fit anything substantial on it. So we ripped those out too and replaced them with a large open shelving unit with adjustable shelving. This space is so great for storing household items in an easy and accessible manner. 

Before, the space to the right of the base cabinet was open and wasted. I had my contractor install rails on each side to hold laundry baskets. Now the baskets are neatly tucked away when not in use. I was so tired of seeing them on the floor or piled up on the countertop. I love when everything has its' own place!

Too give this space some character, I added a full backsplash of subway tile with dark grout and some pretty floral wallpaper. All the white in the room helps brighten up the space, which does not have any windows or natural light. The cabinet hardware was replaced with new brass pulls and knobs. A new rug and a couple of new light fixtures complete the space.
