My 2013 Holiday Home

I'm back today with a little look at my 2013 Holiday Home. Truthfully, my holiday decor this year is not a huge departure from the decor you may have seen in the past couple of years. I did change up my tree and my mantle a little. I also decided to simplify a little this year and not let the glitter bomb explode all over the house! I love the cleaner, toned down look of my holiday home this year. I hope you enjoy it too!

Local Client Project Reveal: Master Bedroom

Hello, friends! I hope all my American readers had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We filled our bellies and our hearts while celebrating with our family at my Mother in Law's home. I really love this time of year and the many opportunities to gather with friends and family!

As I mentioned before, I am busting my buns to finish up a few of my local client projects by the end of the year. This Master Bedroom was one of those projects. I actually scheduled this Master Bedroom install for the day after Thanksgiving. I guess it was a good way for me to work off all the extra calories I consumed!

My client contacted me about making over her Master Bedroom for her and her soon to be new Husband. She was getting re-married and her husband was going to be moving into her home with her 4 children. She requested that I create a space that the Newlyweds could have a fresh start in and call their own. She was open to replacing all of the furniture and the bedding. The only thing she wished to stay was the faux painted wall behind her bed. It is a pretty dusty gray/blue color with a metallic silver faux treatment. I knew I could work with it. With all the expenses associated with her upcoming wedding, I also needed to make sure to stick to the budget she gave me and give her the most bang for her buck. Here is what the bedroom looked like the first time I saw it...

The largest impact in this room comes from my decision to have the walls painted a soft blue gray color that compliments the faux painted wall. The new furniture, accessories and bedding I selected help turn this room into the perfect place for my newlywed clients to retreat and spend time together. My client said that the room exceeded her expectations! Mine too. :)

Local Client Project Reveal: Newport Dawn Family Room

As the end of the year approaches, I am making a mad dash to finish up a few of the client projects which I have been working on over the past few months. That means more blog posts of my completed client projects! :) Today I am excited to share with you this cheerful and casual family room. My clients requested a space that looked pulled together, but would still be comfortable and functional for them and their 5 young children. My clients have a true appreciation for art and craftsmanship, so they also wanted to incorporate a few unique and artisan pieces into their space. This was accomplished by hanging a custom art piece over the fireplace and by purchasing a coffee table which was handmade by an artisan using pieces of reclaimed wood and iron. My client happens to be an extremely talented artist and she painted the picture of the Salt Lake City LDS Temple herself! I gasped the first time I saw it. It is truly beautiful. I told her she needed to paint more and sell them. If she ever does, I will most certainly be her first customer!

And now...

Board and batten mill work was added around the perimeter of the room and above the fireplace to add some architectural interest to the room. It was then painted white to brighten up the space.

Isn't the coffee table gorgeous?!? I love the warmth it adds to the room.

The shelving was styled using books from their library (which I also had the opportunity to design and will be sharing shortly) and items they purchased during their travels. I added some colorful glass and pottery to add a pop of color to the dark wood shelving.

This 10 ft. x 10 ft. sectional can accommodate their entire family. It is the perfect spot for family movie nights!

I love the temple art my client painted. It has so much meaning to them. It is one of my favorite items in the room.

I am so pleased with this space. My clients have also expressed their love for it and that is the greatest reward I could ever ask for.

The thing I love most about my job is that I get to design spaces for real life. Life happens in these spaces. Memories are made there. I am so thankful to all of my client's who welcome me into their homes and trust me with their sacred spaces. I hope that the rooms I design bring them the same measure of joy that I experience while creating them.

My Home: Tween Bedroom Reveal

Hello, Lovely Readers!! It has been waaaaay to long. :) I really do apologize that so much time goes by between blog posts, but I am hoping that the room reveals prove to be worth the wait. If you follow me on Instagram, you have been able to see little peaks and updates of many of the projects I am currently working on. Among them, has been my daughter's Tween bedroom. After completing Little Miss J's room, I was motivated to pull together my older daughter's and son's rooms as well. I decided I would tackle my 9 (almost 10) year old's room first. Way back before we moved into our home, I asked Miss M what kind of room she wanted. We poured over pictures together and gathered ideas for her room. We both agreed that it should be a room that she would love not only at 9 years old, but also at 12 years old. Although, I certainly chose most of the items in her room, she had plenty of input along the way. I would explain my plans to her and anything she did not love didn't make it into the room. The result is a room that she and I absolutely adore. It is a fun, feminine and fresh space that she will grow with her. After her room was finished, she exclaimed "I am the luckiest girl in the world and I love that my Mom is a Designer." Does it get any better than that? I think not.

The window cornice was a DIY project my hubby and I did many months ago. You can read more about it here. The drapes are from West Elm.

She requested a desk in her room. I knew this much loved IKEA hack would be perfect.

She loves dogs, so I matted and framed these darling Rifle Paper Co. dog note cards.

The entire room was painted gray when we moved in. The bookshelves were existing, but we had the niche painted a pretty blush color and had the crown and accent molding added by my finish carpenter.

The queen size headboard is from Pottery Barn and I had it custom upholstered by Rocky Mountain Upholstery in a pretty gray velvet.

I switched out the nickel finished lighting with the gorgeous brass sconces and a gold orbit chandelier.

The Louis Ghost chair is one of her favorite things in her room!
